Liberal pedagogical trends

Liberal Pedagogy believes that the role of the educational institution is to prepare people to play social roles, based on certain skills and competencies.

Here, there is a need to adapt to the values and norms that society places as truth.

Within this model, we highlight 3 examples. Check it out!

Traditional

The traditional trend was the first that the Brazilian context instituted. As you can see, he is a passive receiver and teaching is related to memorizing the content.

The teacher’s knowledge is the absolute truth, which creates a very mechanical and repetitive process.

New Directive and Non-Directive School

Other types of liberal pedagogy are the New Directive and Non-Directive Schools. There is an appreciation of affective aspects, socialization, and focus on self-evaluative activities.

In the non-directive model, the teacher is centered on human relationships. Do you know what that means? Guide the student through the learning process with as little interference as possible. The focus here is to promote self-development and personal fulfillment. Assessment activities use debates, group work, and learning focused on practice and stimulating thought. Interesting, right?

Technician

In this Pedagogy model, educational technology has a huge impact on teaching. The teacher and the student are respectively executor and receiver.

Here, a certain authoritarianism stands out. This Pedagogy is considered non-dialogical, without opening space for the students to dialogue in the classroom or share what they know.

In Progressive Pedagogy, progress is part of its teaching methodology. The inspiration comes from the Marxist theory of knowledge.

You can easily see how this pedagogical training encourages ruptures, to reach a theoretical and abstract place. To achieve this, the student becomes the protagonist of their learning process. Connect with the 3 main aspects into which they are divided!

Libertarian

The libertarian tendency is against authoritarianism and in favor of self-management. As the name suggests, it gives freedom to the student.

The model resists the controlling action of the state. “But how does the teacher know that the student has learned?”, you may ask. Did you understand?

Liberator

You’re probably thinking: aren’t libertarian and liberating the same thing?  The idea is that the student can transform their reality with this thought.

Here, the problematization of reality is part of this student’s daily life. It stops being just a receiver to disseminate the content.
